Whole Body Vibration Therapy
What is Whole Body Vibration?
Whole Body Vibration, or WBV, is exactly what the name suggests: a therapy that utilizes vibrations for musculoskeletal healing and strengthening. The first variant of WBV was designed centuries ago by the Greeks, who applied mechanical vibrations to the area of the body that was functioning improperly. Today, we apply the same basic principle but with modern body vibration machines.
How does WBV work?
Using our WBV machine, we can send therapeutic vibrations throughout the entire body, engaging around 97% of the muscles, soft tissues, and bones. Patients simply stand on a motorized platform, which produces a vibrating sensation that transmits energy to the body (creating a g-force). This acceleration forces your muscles to contract and relax many times per second in order to maintain your balance. As your muscles work to resist they will begin to strengthen.
What conditions can WBV treat?
Patients that have the following conditions may find relief through Whole Body Vibration therapy, unless the severity is extreme. Common spine conditions, disorders, and symptoms that may be relieved with this type of therapy include:
- Autism
- Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
- Depression
- MS
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Stroke Rehabilitation
What are the benefits of WBV?
Whole Body Vibration produces an improvement in circulation as the accelerated forces cause your muscles to contract and relax. This rapid muscle movement works to increase the speed of the blood flow throughout the body.
Not only is circulation improved, but patients often see positive changes in muscle strength, bone mineral density, flexibility, coordination, stability, and balance. This alternative treatment may provide a faster recovery time from work or sports-related injuries, trauma from automobile accidents, fractures and surgery.
WBV therapy may also provide the following benefits:
- Enhanced metabolism
- Reduction of the stress hormone cortisol
- Increase in Human Growth Hormone (HGH) which helps maintain tissues and organs.
- Weight loss (Results best seen with diet and additional workout regimes)
